I hate school!! As long as I can remember these three words always came out of my mouth. Consequently my grades reflected my feelings.

All through elementary school I rarely did my homework although I got decent grades. When I started middle school I did even less homework and my grades got worse and worse. By the time I got to high school I was happy to get a “C” but a “D” still worked because that meant I at least passed the class.

I started college still hating school; I dropped out during the second semester. The second time I attended college I continued to hate school and homework and I continued to get low grades. I eventually dropped out again. The third time I went to college I was determined that I was going to stick to it. Nevertheless I still hated it and I still rarely did my homework. But this time I stuck to it, getting “C’s” in my college classes.

During this time, my relationship with Jesus was maturing and I started to rely on Him for help with school. I began to pray before taking tests and working on papers. Something miraculous happened to my grades. I began getting “B’s” and a few “A’s.”

Now I completely lean on Him for everything I do and I haven’t got a grade less than an “A” in a long time. God has used the subject I hated most throughout my schooling years, English, as my strength. I now get “A’s” on all of my papers and have even received a couple of perfect scores.

Although my dislike of school hasn't gone away, one thing has changed. Jesus's help. Jesus has brought me through college and has helped me gain knowledge and understanding. Paul tells us to “be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

If I had known Jesus when I first started school and that He could help me apply myself to my classes, I would have had a much easier time in school. So just remember, if you are in school right now, no matter what grade level, depend on Jesus and you will make it through (Philippians 4:13). It is in your best interest to finish school and, if you are like me, you need the strength of Jesus to make it through.
